Functional Bowel Disorders

Functional bowel disorders (FBDs), such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), dyspepsia, heartburn, constipation and incontinence affect up to 40 percent of the general population. FBDs are among the most frequently diagnosed diseases in the western world. Symptoms include abdominal, anorectal and pelvic discomfort or pain, bloating, nausea and vomiting, straining at stools, and loss of control over bowel movements.

Such symptoms often have dramatic effects on the quality of life and general well-being of those suffering from FBDs. As well, the overall economic burden of these diseases is high for both the individual and for society. Through our research, we strive to better understand the needs of patients suffering from FBDs. We aim to explore current treatment options and the impact of FBD symptoms on the quality of life of those suffering from it.

Providing your time will help researchers better understand the symptoms and quality of life issues faced by FBD sufferers. Although our survey can not provide you with a diagnosis, it does offer you the chance to have your symptoms grouped into several categories using the Rome II criteria. We ask that you click the "Start Survey" button below and complete the quesionnaire. Your time would be greatly appreciated.
